161 To be validly elected Superior General, the sister to be elected
should have completed 10 years after the first profession
and 35 years of age. 18
162 To be validly elected Superior General, a two-thirds majority
is required. For the validity of the election of the General
Councillors an absolute majority is required. In the above-
said elections, in case the required majority is not attained
in the first two ballots, in the third ballot, voting will be
done only for the two who obtained the majority in the second
ballot and the one who has obtained the largest number of
votes is declared as elected. But if a tie occurs in this ballot,
the sister senior according to the first profession, or in case
of a profession made on the same day, the senior according
to age is declared elected.
163 The Superior General must be a sister who has distinguished
herself with holiness, prudence, experience, knowledge,
impartiality and exemplary religious life. She should be a
person endowed with love for the SJC Community,
commitment to it, ability of government and leadership in
apostolic endeavours.
164 The Superior Generalís term of office is 3 years. She may be
re-elected for a second term. The outgoing Superior General
shall not be elected General Councillor in the subsequent
election.
Election of the General Councillors
165 Under the presidency of the new Superior General, the
General Synaxis elects four councillors by separate voting.
They should have completed 10 years after the first
profession and 35 years of age. They may be re-elected for
one more term.
166 The new Council shall not include more than two members
of the previous Council.
