Silence and Solitude
60 It was by daily praying the whole night on the mountain in
solitude and silence that Jesus fostered and confirmed his
union with the Father . His Mother, the Blessed virgin, too

listened to the Word in faith, treasured it up in her heart, and
prayerfully pondered over it. Again, it was through his deep
prayer life, practised in the silence and solitude of Nazerath, 28
that St. Joseph our Father obtained the inner strength and
grace needed for living in the service of Jesus and Mary,
with complete submission to Godís will.
Spiritual Renewal
61 We wonít be able to live our life as one engaged in glorifying
God and communicating His mercy to others, unless we are

constantly renewed and fortified by the Spirit of God. Such
days as those of the annual and monthly retreat are days of
grace helping us towards the renewal of spirit. Similarly,
that we spent a few days as prayer days can be very helpful
towards our interior renewal and effectiveness of our

apostolate. To sit daily before the divine presence or the
sacrament of the Eucharist for personal prayer; to raise our
hearts frequently to God amidst our day-to-day works by
way of divine praises, ejaculations; practice of the presence
of God - all these can be of immense help towards making
spiritual progress and are, therefore, to be highly
recommended. 31
Life of Reparation
62 Only by participating in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross
that we shall be able to live as sacraments of divine praise
and mercy. This paschal style of life, as it demands that we
