Sacrament of Reconciliation
12
54 The Sacrament of Reconciliation which we receive through
the confession of sins is, indeed, a sacrament of Godís mercy
that gives us strength to be sinless and filled with divine
mercy before God who has called us to holiness. We should
11
frequently receive this sacrament with trust in Godís mercy,
readiness for reparation and repentance. Thereby will the
experience of Godís mercy get deepened in us and we shall
be all the more able to communicate that experience to others
in the form of forgiving and edifying love.
55 We have to offer ourselves to the grace and forgiveness of
13
the Lord that will cause true conversion of heart (metanoia)
in us. This entails that we, through the examination of
conscience, discover our daily falls and faults that happen
to us in the matter of holiness of life to be fostered through
the love of God and others as well as in the matter of
communicating Godís merciful love to others.
Knowledge of the Word of God
56 It is through His Son, the living Word, as well as through the
Scripture, the written word, that God the Father has effused
His mercy into us. It is through his words, especially those
of the Gospels, that we have, above all else, to know Jesus.
Godís word should be the object of our constant learning, 14
meditation, proclamation and practice. The teachings

of the Church, the works of the Church Fathers, the writings
of spiritual teachers and saints do help us to understand the
depths of Godís word more clearly. Therefore, we should
earnestly care to acquire and deepen the most excellent
knowledge of Jesus through the study of the Word of God 18
19
and the reading of spiritual books. 20
