undertaking or developing other apostolic activities has to
be so oriented that they directly or indirectly help the
fulfillment of our primary apostolic goal.
ß2 The following were, in the main, the apostolic services
which were begun by our Founding Father as distinctive of
the apostolate of merciful love and which were, to date, given
pride of place in our religious tradition: home for the disabled,
aged and orphaned; house for the people at the point of death;
home for the mentally challenged etc. Together with these,
we have to open and develop new fields of service and styles
of action, which are more needed in our times so that we, by
communicating the redeeming and consoling love of Godís
mercy to people, may be able to bring them closer to God. 20
It is with the joy and fulfillment of having been able to love
and serve Jesus himself, who ëloved me and delivered
22
himself for me to the cross, that we are to serve and look
21
after the orphaned and abandoned. Let us always remind
ourselves of the following sacred words: ìWhoever is kind
to the poor lends to the Lord, and will be repaid in full.î 23
ìWhoever gives to the poor will lack nothing.î 24
Service of the Sick
86 It was by entrusting them the commission of preaching Godís
kingdom and healing all kinds of infirmities and diseases
25
that Jesus sent his disciples. We are enabled to produce the
redemptive experience of Godís kingdom in the sick and
suffering by transmitting to them the merciful love of the
Lord. Seen in this way, the field of the service of the sick is
an important field for us to foster and deepen in us the
26
apostolic vision of our Founding Father. The service of the
sick rendered by us in a spirit of prayer, consecration, serving
readiness, mutual co-operation and sacrifice will be a great
witness we offer to the people of God.
