commission and grace that he was able to offer his loving
services to Jesus and Mary in their situations of forlornness.
ß2 St. Thomas, the Apostle, is the co-patron of the SJC, who, as
the disciple of Christ and Apostle of India, provides us with
an example, ability and Spirit-filled inspiration to confess

the risen Jesus before the world as our Lord and God as
well as to sacrificingly dedicate ourselves to the cause of his
glory and kingdom. 23
The Juridical Status of the SJC
17 The St. Josephís Congregation of Kottayam Archdiocese is
an Institute of Archeparchial right approved by the
Metropolitan Archbishop of Kottayam. It is governed by the
Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches (CCEO), the
particular Statutes of the Syro-Malabar Church and the
Statutes of the Catholic Archeparchy of Kottayam.
18 The St. Josephís Congregation and all its legitimately erected
houses and institutions are by law itself juridical persons. 24
They have, in accordance with the common law, the natural
right to acquire, posses and dispose properties.
19 This religious Congregation, which works for the welfare
and service of all, especially of the poor, regardless of caste
or creed, is a charitable association of a religious minority
(a Religious Charitable Institute) within the purview of the
Constitution of India.
