Profession : Temporary and Final
ß1 At the expiration of the term of the first profession (one
year), the temporarily professed sister renews her profession
canonically for one more year. Thus, at the expiration of the
term of each profession she renews canonically her
profession five times for one year. At the end of the fifth
year final profession is made.
ß2 On absolutely necessary occasions, for a legitimate and
sufficient reason, a sister who has completed three years after her
first profession may be permitted by the Superior General with
the consent of her Council to make her final profession. The
duration of the temporary profession shall not exceed six years. 33
123 At the expiration of the term of the temporary vows a sister
may be permitted or denied permission on grave reasons to
make her further profession.
124 When a sister has made her final profession, the matter has
to be notified in writing, as early as possible, to the Major
Archbishop and to the Vicar of the parish where her baptism
has been recorded. 34
