                                                    About Mutholath

Mutholath Family has its origin at Cherpunkal, a beautiful village near Pala in Kottayam District in Kerala
State, India. The family members belong to the Catholic Archdiocese of Kottayam and are members of
Knanaya Catholic Community. We are proud of our faith, community, and nationality. Generally the members
of Mutholath family are hard working and God loving people who like to keep up Christian morals and values.

                                             Origin of Mutholath Family

Mutholath family, along with many other present families in Cherpunkal, is a branch of Chenthottathil
family. No family is currently using Chenthottathil as a family name because all the branches of Chenthot-
tathil family were using the name of the property in which they built houses as their family names.

Mr. Thomman Chenthottathil who lived around 1791 had two sons. His elder son Kuriako built house in
the eastern portion of Varikattu property and the other son Kurian built house in the western portion of the
same property. Thus, those two families were known as Kizhakke-varikattu (Kizhak in Malayalam language
means eastern) and Padinjare-varikattu (Padinjar in Malayalam means western).

Mr. Thomman Chenthottathil’s yourng son Mr. Kurian Padinjare (western) varikattu had four sons who
lived in the following properties: Mutholath, Padinjare-varikattu, Moozhayil, and Neduvelil.

The son of Kurian Padinjare varikattu who lived in Mutholath property was Kuriako. He is the head of the
Mutholath branch. He had two sons and four daughters. His elder son Kurian lived in Kulappurath property
and the other son Chacko lived in Mutholath property.

This family history is centralized on Mr. Chacko Mutholath and his descendents. Chacko Mutholath mar-
ried Anna from Padikkamyalil family in Maridom.
