On the occasion of the completion of this thesis, I raise my heart, full
of love and gratitude, in thanksgiving to Almighty God, for the ineffable
providence that I experienced during my study in Pontificia Università
Della Santa Croce, Rome. I place on record, my deep indebtedness to all
those who have helped me, in one way or another, in this attempt. First and
foremost, I wish to express my sincere sentiments of gratitude to Prof.
Mons. Juan Ramón Areitio, the moderator of this dissertation, for his
scholarly guidance, constant availability, fraternal concern, immense
patience and encouragement. I am also grateful to Sr. Patricia Dorobek, for
her very precise corrections and suggestions for the improvement of this
work. Remembering with gratitude all the help Mr. Giuseppe Matteuci has
given me as Secretary of this Faculty.

With gratitude, I remember my Archbishop Mathew Moolakkatt, for
having given me the opportunity to undertake this study in Rome. I
remember with immense gratitude Don Angelo Silei, the vicar of Madonna
al Pestello parish Montevarchi, and Mons. Antonio Nicolai and all other
fellow priests and friends of the St. Lucia parish Rome, for their help
through prayer and encouragement. I am also grateful to all my fellow
priests, sisters, brothers and lay faithful from the Archdiocese of Kottayam,
whose guidance, moral support and understanding have helped and
encouraged me during these years of study.

I remember my dear parents and my brother Rev. Fr. Biju Tharayil
who have given me such a wonderful experience of the Domestic Church
and Sanctuary of Life, right from the beginning of my birth. I would like to
                        dedicate this study to them.

                                                                            Bipy Mathew Tharayil
